Please please come soon!

Check out the price! Taxfree! :) Although it's not here yet and I ordered over 2 weeks ago!!

The siesta that saved the day!

It's been a very warm and long day. Had a good day with the kids and then I headed off to the beach to meet Laura and have a few Papa Rellenas and to study some Spanish. There was a pelican on the beach, I think it was sick cause it was not very active. Macho guys and kids were starting to throw stones at it and me and Laura went a bit mental... I love pelicans, you can't treat them like that!

This has been the warmest day since I came, was so warm today so when I arrived back to my shed I collapsed into a 2 hour long siesta! Just woke up and feel great!

2 hours is a bit long for a siesta, but I really do enjoy the afternoon naps.
Although, I do think that they work best in warm countries!

The Weekend in Pictures!

The best food in the world!!!

These are called Papa Rellena and are seriously the best thing I ever had in my life! It's like fried stuffed potatoes with some meat inside, they are served with this salad and souses that just makes the best combination! Me and Laura had 6 of them EACH in one day!! WOW! If you ever go to Peru this is a must try!

The dog took a bite....

of my leg! I am working Thursdays and Fridays in the dog shelter. One out of the 37 dogs got a little bit over excited when I went for a swim.

At least I have water... today!

This is my dear shower... If there is water is not a lot and it has never been warm which I don't mind. The "South American Suicidal Shower" only electrocutes people when there is hot water (have a look at the cables)... so I am fine with cold water, I am fine with water...

In the end of the day this is not an issue!

Me after another lovely day with the kids...

Days are so nice here, so rewarding! I woke up this Monday morning, keep in mind that I don't even drink coffee in the mornings here. I get up, have some water and a banana or two, walk to the bus station... It's warm and not many people on the streets, so nice. The dogs are doing their ususal routines, taxis and buses are slowing down and are very kean to get you onboard.

I get to my stop, Huanchaquito, walk for a few minutes and then I arrrive to the Wawa Wasi, open the door and there will almost always be a few kids there already. The day includes playing with the kids, reading books (good practise for my Spanish), painting, dancing, feeding them and changing diapers.

The Wawa Wasi doesn't have a floor, it's just like a plastic carpet. It's a average sized room with two pots in the corner where the kids can go to the toilette.

There are only a few toys and most of them are very old and used, broken or pieces missing, these kids don't know anything else so they don't complain. These kids are so wonderful and I know already that I will miss them alot when I leave...

Was brave and tried the street food...

Sunset in Huanchaco

It wasn't meant to be...

I bought an Iphone when I was living in Dublin, I then moved to Belfast and found out that the phone was bared in the UK... Well I thought it's always good to have an Iphone anyway since it's like a small computer and it makes things like blogging very easy.

I then travel to Peru and it has now been stolen... :(

I thought my camera was stolen as well but I found it, so at least I still got all the pictures.

Exhausted little breakdown...

So since Friday I haven't been able to keep liquids or food inside, runs right through me which has made me quite exhausted by now...

Had to stay home from work today since I am running to the toilette tooo often and I am actually not sure if the Wawa Wasi has a toilette. Have been in bed all day and feeling quite sorry for myself.

I then felt that it was time for a shower and realized that I handed in all my laundry (including the towels) yesterday, 24 hours ago. So I walk to the laundry shop and they are not able to find my bag, I then spot my bag in the corner... still untouched since yesterday. I ask if I can take my towel out and then I will come back tomorrow to pick the rest up which was fine. I walk home with my smelly towel to find out that I have no running water what so ever... normally I would probably laugh about the madness of the hole situation... but due to 4 days of constant loss of nutrition and liquids it is not that fun today! I need a hug!

Almost better then sunset...

Jim the surfer!

This guy came to Huanchaco 6 months ago to learn how to surf, he had never surfed before and he is now a very good surfer! He used to be afraid of water and he is still not a very good swimmer but he still does it! Very impressive! It's never to late to fulfil your dreams :) Thumbs up for Jim!

Estoy aprendiendo Espanol

After a pretty exhausting day with the kids I head to la playa for some Spanish homework I got yesterday! Next lesson is tomorrow :)

My Wawa Wasi!

This is the village I work in.. And some of the kids! So sweet! The village is called Huanchaquito, they don't have running water and the "business" is pretty much done anywhere you want so it tends to be quite smelly and a lot of flies... The Wawa Wasi consist of one average sized room where the 8-10 kids stay all day, it gets really warm!

Had such a good day....

and it's not even finished! :)

Went up early, unpacked everything finally and turned my little shed into a very cosy place. I actually like it and will stay here.. I don't have water today though so it's not possible to shower but I think it might be because it is Sunday. Normally I have water in the morning but nothing in the afternoons, anyway not a big issue, just making the experience even better.

I then went out for some breakfast and bumped into a few people I met this week, most of them are other volunteers and also one tourist. Laura who takes care of the dogshelter asked if we wanted to join her to go and see an injured dog, just to feed her and give her some loving attention so we headed of to the nearby village Las Lomas to visit the dog who is recovering from a broken pelvis..SWEET DOG!

After that we headed down to the beach and I got burned as always, even though I was constantly putting sunscreen factor 45 on, yep sun is quite strong here!

Then we went for some lunch in Chocolate and studied some Spanish together. Soon I am off to Otra Cosa Restaurant for an actual lesson, if Sam the teacher is available :)

Tomorrow I will start working with the kids, can't wait! :)

Mi casa nuevo!

This will be my home for the next two months! Very cosy!

Public transport has never been so much fun!

Went into Trujillo yesterday to buy myself a phone for approximately 5 euros. I decided to take the public transport for the first time since I arrived and what an adventure. The buses a very very small and colorful, in the open door stands a guy screaming the destination of the bus, once you make some kind of sign that you want to go on the bus they approach you and literally throw you onboard the bus, most of the time they don't even stop the bus!! Once on you will notice that the bus is ready to fall apart and still they are driving super fast... The bus is pumping with Latin music and the windows are open and of course the bus is always tooooo full, but in the end it doesn't matter, it works, there are always buses and it's fun! I have to say I love the public transport i Peru!

Lima to Trujillo

Will post more pictures later!

Arrived in Huanchaco!

It was a very long trip and I am still pretty exhausted but at least I am safe and sound in Huanchaco!

The place is just wonderful... it's almost like a mix between Rasta and Inka, it has a nice vibe.

The 9 hour bus ride from Lima to Trujillo was also very nice, driving along the sand mountains but you could really see how poor the people are. Their houses are more like sheds and in there small gardens there are kids playing, mothers washing clothes and cows, horses, donkeys and sheep are also living there together.

I still haven't been able to get hold of a simcard/ phone but I hope I will manage to do that today.

At the moment I am in a family hostel, really sweet old lady that is running it and she likes to talk and she just laugh when she understands that I don't understand her and then she keeps on talking... yeah I really need to learn Spanish and now.

Hopefully I will move to the hostel that I plan to stay for 2 months today, haven't seen it yet but it was warmly recommended by a friend...

Now I am off to the Intruduction at Otra Cosa!

Tomorrow Tomorrow

I am off to Peru tomorrow! So excited! The total duration of the journey is 37 hours... will be quite exhausted when I get to Huanchaco in Northern Peru.

Can't believe this is actually happening!?

Still have a lot to do including buying a new Iphone charger otherwise it will be tricky to post photos on the blog.

Just made sure I have a window seat on all 3 flights, very pleased with that :)

Back to work!
