Mayorista Market and a kitten rescue!
Me and Laurita went to the Mayorista Market in Trujillo to pick up some carnaval outfits! The market is full of this cages with guinea pigs, rabbits, puppies, kittens, birds... yeah all kind of animals. Guinea pigs are a very popular dish here in Peru... Some cages are so small that the animals can't even turn around, not a very nice sight. The market also have a lot of herbs and we picked up some coca leaves :)
On the way back we found a very skinny and scared little kitten on the road, we decided to rescue her and she has now been re-homed! We named her Mayorista!

Sunday trip to the Andes!
Me and Laurita went up to the worlds longest mountain range yesterday - The Andes!! We went to a little mountain village called Otuzco. Approximately 3000 meters above sea-level and we both managed to get a bit of altitude sickness.
Really sweet little village, very Peruvian. The people are still wearing the traditional clothes and there are loads of Lamas and donkeys. As we arrived there I almost fainted since I did not eat anything before going up which was quite stupid. We also didn't think about bringing clothes!!! Freezing up there! Stupid tourists haha! Anyway we bought a poncho each made out of Lama wool! :)
A very brilliant Sunday indeed!

Tears!!
Today when I left the Wawa Wasi I cried... just a little bit but I did.
All the kids were so sweet and they were all screaming: CHAO SENORITA JENNIE!!!! And then it hit me! How will I feel when I leave them for the last time?
I can't even think about it without getting tears in my eyes! Will be sad...
18 days left until I fly home! Although I am very happy about that as well cause I will get to see my dear dear Jappie!!

How can people do this??
We got 2 new puppies in the dogshelter yesterday. They were found tied in a carrier bag by the side of the road....suffocating!!!! The 2 puppies are soooo sweet but they are very scared now... we are cuddling them constantly to make them feel at home in their new home and with their 38 new small friends.
How can anyone do such a thing? Really make me so angry!
Pictured below is one of the poor puppies.

Dog Shelter Day!
Yesterday and today it has been public holidays here in Peru so the Wawa Wasi has been closed, so instead of being lazy I have been helping out in the dogshelter again. We had 2 new volunteers today and it's always nice to see the first reaction of people when they get 38 dogs running towards them and they all wanna say hi! Amazing! We had a long walk on the beach today with almost all dogs. It was very very warm today and we all got a bit sunburned...again! We are south of the equator but very close so the sun is always extremely strong!
Anyway, we all had a very nice day including the perros :)

The Local Swimming Pool Adventure
After work one day the daughter of Violeta (the woman running the Wawa Wasi) wanted me to take her and three friends to the swimming pool in the village. We all went through the village to get to this swimming pool, people were starring cause it probably is not very common to see a white girl walking around in the small village with 4 teenage locals.
Anyhow, we arrived to this swimming pool, not a single person was swimming in the very small and very dirty pool. There were dead cockroaches on the bottom haha! Still it was a very nice experience and the girls had a really good time!
I tried to teach them how to swim, will need a few more lessons I think, so back to the pool soon again! :)

The mad weekend!
Zorritos was brilliant!
There is no tourists at all there so we kept on being stopped in the streets and people wanted to take pictures of us!
It is a very small village and we managed to get famous!
We went to the mudbaths and there was a TV crew from Ecuador there and they did a whole documentary about us and the mudbaths! Haha really good weekend!

38 dogs and me....
Today I worked in the dogshelter on my own for the first time since Laura had a day off. It all went so well!! Sweetest dogs ever! It's so interesting working with so many dogs in the same time, they all have different personalities and they are almost like wolfs with a leader and so on.
Anyway it was a great day! Got completely sunburned though! Sun is extremely strong here! Now we are heading north for the weekend where the sun is even stronger so we will see how that goes!
10 hours in the bus! Hopefully we will be able to sleep! :)
